I think it means: God is sex and sex is God. There is no separation of the two really. I think it's something someone would think or say to someone they are going to be with a lifetime, as in a marriage. I also think that just because a person is celibate does not mean he or she can not create music or art about it. I mean, you think about it but your faith and commitment to celibacy means that you do not act on those feelings. It is not easy by any means.
I did / do not get the song. When I bought the CD, I was dissapointed that there were/ are unreadable lyrics. Being sour, I throw away the whole stuff. Later I´ve listened to the song, but thought it was a love song for Jesus. Now I wonder about another sense. It really seems that he has been in love at that time when he wrote the song. Humm ?!?
When I first heard "Liquid Jesus," it confused me. And this confusion made me "jump" to the conclusion it wasn't a good song. It wasn't till I opened my mind and heart (without judgement and/or preconceived ideas) that I than concluded my first impression of "Liquid Jesus," was wrong.
Lenny Kravitz's style and vibe are amazing!!
The aesthetic quality of his heart really shines through in this musical/lyrical masterpiece. And, I see God in his creativity. God encompasses the creative mind in the same way God encompasses the universal painting, known as the creative earth. The miracle of life itself, is a good example of this concept known as the creative earth.
Making love and the word "lover" symbolizes much more than the act of sex. The theme of uniformity and unity is obvious, as it is a necessary component according to the mystery of our universe.
The soul is understood as the mirror of God just as our creative mind is the mirror of our individual soul.
I do not see Lenny in conflict and/or confused with love/lust/faith. I am grateful for his life.

I also like this tune, and its interpretation is in the ears and mind of the beholder-each and every one of us has their own thoughts of the meaning of this lovely, sexy, smooth, crooner-type tune. As a Christian woman myself I have dual interpretations of it.
Muziklluvnlife Thanks for info. i was close with love washing over him and his love! Now I see the love would wash over him. I wonder if he is in love? I am in love with the song!
In Rome during the showcase, the public has requested liquid jesus with his smile and he sang a verse only with his voice ........ fantastic as always!!
Ha Yes, at first listen the song sounds a bit too sensuous to have a reference to God. Lenny said that this is a love song and that "Liquid Jesus" is a metaphor for the love he needs from the girl to cleanse and save him from his past issues and baggage so that he can be truely free to love. Her love can purify him like "liquid" Jesus purifies and renews us. I LOVE the tone of his voice in this song. :)
